What Seminole does to a window
Water surrounds Seminole without quite reaching most of it. Lake Seminole and Long Bayou keep the air humid year round, so the glass on the shaded side of a house and anything facing the water grows a gray mildew film along the frames by midsummer. On the west edge, Oakhurst and the homes along Boca Ciega Bay and the Intracoastal get a real salt haze on top of that whenever the wind comes off the Gulf.
The trees do the rest. Seminole was built under mature pines and oaks, and the pollen comes down for two months every spring, followed by sap, needles and tannin for the rest of the year. Many of the older yards still irrigate from wells, which leaves rust streaks on the lower glass, and the pool cages in Bardmoor, Seminole Lake and Bayou Club hold everything that lands on the lanai sliders.
Most Seminole homes do well on a quarterly plan with the inside glass done once a year. Homes on Long Bayou, Lake Seminole or the Intracoastal sometimes go to every two months.
